With the goal of reaching the highest pass on the Everest High Passes Trek today, we left Chhukung at earliest light. Since there are no lodges along the route, we were ready for the trek and had lots of water, snacks, and a packed lunch.
The route’s isolation was thrilling and demanding at the same time. We were shivering from the breathtaking view of Amphu Lapcha’s craggy mountain and the Island Peak Valley. Ahead of us loomed the massive Khumbu Glacier, while behind us stretched a panorama of frozen lakes.
The hardest part of the journey was the last descent, which required us to follow a constantly-changing path across the Khumbu Glacier in order to arrive at Lobuche.
