Introduction of MT. MANASLU EXPEDITIONS

Mt. Manaslu Mountaineering Expeditions with Loong Adventures leads you to one of the most spectacular adventure destinations. Mt. Manaslu Expeditions involves an exciting overland journey towards Nepal’s Midwest, around the district of Gorkha. The walk begins in a low subtropical climate, following the Budhi Gandaki River upstream to its glacial source. Where the massive glaciers of Manaslu and its satellite peaks feed the Budhi Gandaki River.  The walk follows nice farm villages, an opportunity to witness the impressive cultures. The route leads to dramatic changes in the landscapes, temperatures, vegetation, and various ethnic tribes of the Midwest of Nepal.

Nepal has two major religions, Hinduism and Buddhism. The high hills and mountainous regions are Buddhist. Trekkers will encounter villages steeped in a strong Buddhist religion, adorned with prayer monuments and monasteries.

The natives of Upper Manaslu Valley are the Bhotias tribe, of Tibetan origin. Migrated from Tibet around the 16th Century or even earlier, the native name for Manaslu is Kutang. It translates as a flourishing country for high-altitude crops of barley, buckwheat, and common wheat. The name Manaslu comes from ancient Sanskrit, meaning mind, soul, or mighty spirits. Which is also similar to the holy Lake Manasarover near Mt. Kailash, located in Southwest Tibet. The people of Upper Manaslu still retain the traditions and trade across the border in Tibet. The upper Gorkha and Manaslu fall on the old Trans Himalaya Salt Trade Route to Tibet. The trek progresses from warmer to cooler hills and climbs over steep ridges through lovely forested trails. Then, towards the picturesque upper region and valley of Manaslu from Jagat village to Namrung and Lo Gaon. The walk is along scenic views of majestic Mt. Manaslu as it towers above the Manaslu Valley towards Sama Gaon. The major village of Upper Manaslu gateway to the Tibet/China border and towards Mt. Manaslu base camp.

Spending an extra day at Sama Gaon for acclimatization and to explore its traditional cultural village. Then head towards the south of Manaslu Valley, walking past a beautiful Birendra Tal (lake). The trek leads you beneath the towering North Face of Mt. Manaslu, where base camp is located.

Trip Highlights

One of the most straightforward routes to the summit of Mt. Manaslu. The mountain has a more than 75% success rate than other 8,000 m peaks. Climbers can enjoy climbing over manageable technical routes to the summit. Mt. Manaslu is considered the mind and soul of a god, the mountain of spirits. Manaslu is a combination of picturesque scenery and colorful cultures. The best and most favored choice for beginners and veteran mountaineers

  1. Climb the 8th highest peak in the world – Mt. Manaslu (8,163m), a true high-altitude mountaineering challenge.
  2. Less crowded 8000-meter peak – Offers a more remote and peaceful experience compared to Everest.
  3. Stunning Himalayan views – Panoramic scenery including Manaslu, Annapurna, Ganesh Himal, and more.
  4. Rich Tibetan-influenced culture – Encounter ancient monasteries and unique local traditions during the approach.
  5. Scenic Manaslu Base Camp – Surrounded by glaciers and mountains, perfect for acclimatization and rest.
  6. Technically demanding climb – Involves glacier travel, fixed ropes, and multiple high camps for summit success.

Trip Information of MT. MANASLU EXPEDITIONS

The best times for the trek and climb of Mt. Manaslu are spring and autumn/fall seasons. Spring begins from March to May, and autumn begins from September and ends in November. Springtime, with longer sunshine, is the best season for treks and mountaineering adventures. For stunning views of the Himalayan mountain ranges, cold mornings, and in the shade, including the nighttime. Late afternoon can get overcast with snowfall sometimes. Autumn starts from September and ends in November, another best seasons for treks and climbs. Most days are clear for views and pleasant walks, as well as for climbing, but days are short. It gets dark soon by 5 p.m. with late sunshine from 6 a.m. Days are much clearer with sunshine for pleasant walks and climbs, Can expect snowfall sometimes above 3,000 m high on walks and climbs. Cold mornings, in shades, and the night times, but with clear starry nights.

Mt. Manaslu and its range fall within the Mansiri Himalayas, also known as the Gorkha Massif. Mt. Manaslu at 8,163 m / 26,781 ft. Listed as the world’s 8th highest peak. The first ascent was on May 9th, 1956, by the Japanese Expedition with the support of a Nepalese mountain guide, Gyalzen Sherpa. From Jagat Village, towards Upper Manaslu was closed for outside visitors since Tibet was annexed by mainland China.

Then opened for all foreign visitors from 1991 onwards, but remains a Restricted Area. All trekkers and mountaineers require a special permit to enter the Upper Manaslu, including a fee for the MCA (Manaslu Conservation Area). The most prominent peaks of Manaslu Himal are Himal Chuli (7,893m/25,896 ft.), Ngadi Chuli (7,871m/25,823 ft), Boudha Himal (6,672 m/ 21,889 ft).

After spending overnights in simple, nice local lodges, from Sama Gaon onwards spending overnights in a tented camp. Until the climb is completed, and then the return treks overnight in lodges till Maccha Khola, where the trek concludes.

The climb to the summit of Mt. Manaslu offers several options and routes. The standard and most favored trail is also the original route, where the Japanese expedition climbed in 1956 from the Northeast face. The climb is straightforward from PD (Per Difficult) to TD (Technical Difficult), in a few sections to the summit. Although the climb of few technical efforts, climbers should take care of the sudden avalanches. Which occurs quite frequently from Base Camp onwards to Camp I and III.

For 8,000-meter peaks, three higher camps are required besides the Base Camp at 4,400 m/14/435 feet. Advance Camp at 5,980 m / 19,619 ft. From the Advance Camp, the real adventure begins for the summit bid. Camp I is between 5,600 m and 5,700 m, Camp II is at 6,300 m to 6,400 m. Camp III at 6, 900 m to 7, 300 m. The terrains to come across vary from obstacles crossing over glaciers, to steep snowy steps. All climbers will be on fixed ropes for safe and successful ascent and descent from the summit to Advance Camp. The success rate at the general level is 60 % to 70 %. The rest is due to unfavorable and bad weather. Includes the health conditions of the mountaineers and safety measures.

Manaslu is regarded as relatively accessible in comparison to other peaks above 8,000 meters with a well-established trekking route to base camp.  The climb to Manaslu summit does not have major technical difficulties than a few other 8000-meter peaks. It makes a good option for beginners and mountaineers, as well as experienced climbers. Due to its accessibility in negotiating technical challenges. Most of the success rates are slightly higher during the pre-monsoon of May to June. As well post-monsoon of September.

Climbers with more times in Nepal can enjoy the trek after the climb, heading towards Sama Gaon. Then trek towards Larke Phedi or Dharmasala via Samdo Village. Cross Larke-La Pass 5,106 m high and descent to Bhimthang/Bhim Phedi and end the trek at Dharapani Village around Manang district.

From Dharapani a long drive back to Kathmandu via Bhesishar Town around Lamjung areas.

FAQs of MT. MANASLU EXPEDITIONS

Mount Manaslu is the eighth-highest mountain in the world, standing at 8,163 meters (26,781 feet).

Technically demanding, the expedition is best suited for climbers who have previously experienced high-altitude mountaineering, particularly above 6,000 meters.

Autumn (September to October) is the ideal season because of the consistent weather and improved visibility. Another secondary climbing season is spring (April to May).

Prior high-altitude trekking experience and a basic understanding of how to use mountaineering gear, such as crampons, ropes, and ice axes, are prerequisites.

Trekking, acclimatisation, and summit days are typically included in the 35–45 day duration of the entire expedition.

You’ll require:

Permit for Manaslu Climbing

Permit for Restricted Areas

Permit for Manaslu Conservation Area (MCAP)

Permit for Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP)

Supplemental oxygen is strongly advised above Camp III to improve safety and summit success, though it is not required.

During the trek, you will stay in teahouses, and at base camp and higher, you will stay in tent camps.

Yes, it is required to have comprehensive insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and high-altitude evacuation.

No. Climbers must be a part of a registered expedition team via a licensed Nepali operator because Manaslu is located in a restricted area.
