Introduction of Makalu Circuit Trek

Makalu Base Camp and Sherpani Col Trekking lead you to one of the dramatic adventures around the Mid-Eastern Himalayas. A long and exciting traverse from Makalu and Barun Valley reaches you to the high Khumbu scenic areas of Everest. Makalu Base Camp and Sherpani Col Trekking involve three major high passes.

Besides the smaller passes of Khongma, Tutu-la, Keke-la, and Shipton La to reach scenic Barun Valley and Makalu base camp.
Makalu Base Camp and Sherpani Col Trekking is a different and unique journey than other mainstream trekking adventures. This trek is solely for enthusiastic adventurous trekkers to enjoy the remote hidden pockets of the majestic Himalayas.

The first part of the adventure takes you to Makalu Base Camp through high Khoma Ridge. Traversing smaller passes past small glacial ponds of Thulo and Sano Pokhari to reach scenic Barun Valley. After a few days of good steep climb amidst lovely dense woods of pines, firs, and rhododendrons trees. Slowly the dense vegetation and tall trees drop for barren mountain wilderness on entering the scenic Barun Valley.

As the walk progresses heading west towards Mt. Makalu Base Camp for two overnights. Allowing your body to acclimatize before the climb over the high passes of Sherpani, West Col, and Amphu Labtsa-La.

Mt. Makalu is the world’s 5th highest peak at 8,463 m/27, 766 feet, a pyramid-shaped black rocky top. Hence it is called Makalu the Great Black Mountain, first climbed by the French Expeditions on May 15th, 1955. From then on few groups of mountaineers often ventured for daring feats to the top of Mt. Makalu. Regarded as one of the toughest, and most technical mountains to climb, compared to Mt. Everest.

At base camp with extra days for acclimatization, our great adventures begin, heading towards the hidden corners west of towering Mt. Makalu. The views get better and awesome as the climbs get tough on steep rocky and icy ledges.

Finally, the big climb reaches you on top of Sherpani and West Col, after a gruesome ascent from Puja or Swiss Camp. Enjoy the incredible scenery as you stand amidst the glorious giant peaks of Makalu, Baruntse and Chamling Himal.

The view extends as far as Everest, Nuptse, and Lhotse with Mt. Kanchenjunga towards the eastern horizon. After a great traverse over Sherpani and West Col, leaving the Makalu area to enter Hongu Valley at Panch Pokhari. A hidden glaciated valley with five smaller ponds amidst Barun Himal, Mingbo and Amphu peaks. The adventure then leads towards Amphu Labtsa-La the last final pass to cross, then enters the Imjatse Valley. Entering the heart of Khumbu and Everest region, the walk heads to Chukung close to the famous Island Peak.

From Chukung onwards on the main popular trail to Namche Bazaar through lovely picturesque Tengboche and majestic monastery. Reaching back into a green country covered in the lovely coniferous forest of pines, firs, and rhododendrons trees. The walk gets easier and pleasant along with spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam with an array of peaks. The trail follows to famous Namche Bazaar, the hub of Khumbu Sherpa and trekkers. An amazing town with bright colorful houses of the Sherpa adorned with Buddhist cultures.

Spending time at Namche Bazaar, on the downhill path to Dudh Koshi River, then finally, the trek concludes by reaching Lukla. The gateway town to various adventures around Khumbu, with a unique airport named Tenzing & Hillary.

The next early morning a smooth sweeping short flight brings you to the hustle and bustle city of Kathmandu. After an overwhelming adventure of great experience at Makalu Base Camp and Sherpani Col Trekking.
