Trip Information of Himlung Himal Expedition
The best times for the Himlung Himal climb are spring and autumn/fall. Spring begins from March to May, and autumn begins from September and ends in November. Springtime has longer sunshine hours, one of the best seasons for treks and mountaineering adventures. As well as for stunning views of the Himalayan Mountain ranges, cold mornings, within the shade, and at night. Late afternoon can get overcast with snowfall sometimes. Autumn begins in September and ends in November, one of the best times for treks and climbs. Most days are clear for views and walks, as well as for climbing, but with short sunshine hours. It gets dark by 5 p.m. Days are much clearer with sunshine and snowfall sometimes above 3,000 m high on walks and climbs. Cold mornings, in shade, and the night times, but with clear starry nights.
The first ascent was on 3 rd October 1992, by the Japanese team with Osamu Hani and Akio Koizumi. As well as by the Nepali climbers Nima Sherpa, from then on, Himlung Himal frequently ventured for trekking and mountaineering. Himlung’s name comes from two ancient languages: Him, for snow in Sanskrit, and Lung, which means wind in Tibetan. It translates as snowstorm, which can occur at any time of the season. The Himlung Himal Expedition is a full-fledged mountaineering adventure, known for its moderate difficulty and high success rate. Like other 7,000 and 8,000-meter peaks, it takes about two weeks to reach the summit from base camp. Have time for practice exercise, climb, acclimatization, and checking the gear with full preparation for the summit bid. The base camp is 4,900 meters / 16,076 feet high, and requires 3 more high camps to reach the summit.
After enjoying an acclimatization day at Phu Gaon, trek through a glacial valley to Himlung Himal base camp. Our advanced group of camping and trekking staff and expert guides will set up the camp. After Base Camp, three more camps are required for the safe and successful ascent to the top of Himlung Himal.
CAMP I:
Base camp to Camp I at 5,450 m /17,881 feet. After breakfast, a slow and steady pace leads to Camp I. From here onwards, the climb is demanding. Climbers may need several days/weeks of training and practice. The trail towards Camp I is significantly snowy. Our Sherpa crew will climb ahead of the group to set up the tents. On arrival at Camp I, enjoy the stunning views of the Annapurna, Manaslu, and Gangapurna mountains. Overnight in Camp I.
CAMP II:
Climbing further to set Camp II at 6,000 m/19,686 feet high. After Camp I, on checking the gear and food, the next morning climb to Camp II. On reaching Camp II, enjoy the views of the surrounding massive snow-capped peaks. Having a good rest, saving energy for the demanding ascent to Camp III and the summit.
CAMP III: ASCENT OF HIMLUNG
HIMAL SUMMIT:
The last Camp III is at 6,350 m/20,834 feet high. Then prepare for the final summit bid on top of Himlung Himal at 7,126 m/23,380 feet. The last and final climb to the summit on top Himlung Himal is considered the longest and most challenging climb. The climber has to overcome a steep 45-50° vertical climb of 1,100 meters high. From the top, you are rewarded with a spectacular panorama of the Annapurna, Manaslu, and Chulu Himalayan ranges towards the west.
The essential requirement for the Himlung Himal Expedition is that all climbers must purchase Travel and Medical Insurance. Carry a valid passport and obtain the Nepal visa from your home country. If not can get at Kathmandu international airport on arrival, after showing the needful documents with present photos. The most important thing is taking care of your health and medical background. Staying fit with sound health for the adventure to Himlung Himal. Please ask Vertex Holidays for information regarding the equipment for the trek and climb. The company provides all food and accommodation with logistic support. Climbers should bring their own climbing equipment. Please check what’s included and excluded from the expedition cost.
